Mat McBriar
Mat McBriar, a native of Melbourne, Australia, has become one of the NFL’s premiere punters in just his sixth season in the league. An undrafted rookie by the Cowboys in 2003, Mat has been selected to the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro twice. He has five of the Cowboys top-10 single-game highs for gross punt average and the second-best single-game net punt average.
Before making an NFL roster, Mat was mentored by fellow Aussie Punter and Pro Player Foundation President, Darren Bennett. Mat and his wife Erin, were inspired by the courage they saw in Darren’s oldest son, Will, who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2003. Mat quickly joined the Pro Player Foundation and began hosting Mat McBriar’s Holiday Kicks for Kids at Children’s Medical Center Dallas beginning in 2010. The event included a holiday party and gift giveaway for 75 children with Muscular Dystrophy at the hospital.
Mat attended the University of Hawaii where he recorded the Warrior’s all-time, single-game punting record with a 53.8 yards/attempt average. He also holds the second-best career punting average for Hawaii with an average of 42.22 yards/punt. In January 2003, Mat was the first-ever Australian player to be selected to play in the Hula Bowl as the Punter for the Kai (North) team.
Mat and Erin reside in Dallas, TX, with their three dogs.
