Flavors of Austin 2012 Recap

To help kick off MS Awareness Month, 1977 Heisman Trophy Award winner and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Earl Campbell hosted the inaugural Flavors of Austin, an exclusive charity event to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Over 350 guests attended the 2012 event, which was held at the Texas Federation of Women’s Club Mansion on Saturday February 25th.  The event started with guests tasting some of the best cuisine Austin, Texas had to offer.  Featured restaurants at Flavors of Austin included The Salt Lick, The University of Texas Club, Truluck's, Serranos, Maggiano’s, Hoover’s, Flemming’s, Spring Hill Restaurant, Cousin Leroy’s BBQ Sauce and Hill Country Cupcake.  Brown Distributing, Glazer’s, ONEHope Wine and Vitamin Water generously provided the beverages for the evening.

Each sponsored table had a designated former football player to interact with.  Pro Football Hall of Fame members Randall McDaniel, Elvin Bethea, Ricky Jackson and Kenny Houston were on hand to lend their support.  Other notable NFL alumni included Raul Alegre, Jeff Blake, Jim Wilks, Thomas Everett and Mike Renfro.  Also in attendance were University of Texas football letterman Kwame Cavil, Sherrod Harris, Pete Gardere and former coach Frank Akers.

Along with generous donations and table sponsorships, some of the funds raised at Flavors of Austin came from the live and silent auction.  The live auction showcased travel packages to Maui, HI, Kauai, HI, San Diego, CA and Pristine Bay in Honduras.  Other one-of-a-kind items featured during the live auction included solid gold longhorn cufflinks, a private tailgate for 10 catered by Cousin Leroy’s BBQ Sauce, Glazer’s and Hill Country Cupcake, and a round of golf at Barton Creek Resort with Earl Campbell!

The silent auction was filled with priceless sports memorabilia including signed items from Lance Armstrong, Emmitt Smith, Nolan Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Kite, Mack Brown, Troy Aikman, Arian Foster, and Earl Campbell.  Other items included South by Southwest VIP passes, a VIP tour of Cowboys Stadium, a packaged stay at the luxurious Driskill Hotel, a VIP dinner at Vince Young’s Steakhouse and tickets to see former Saturday Night Live cast memember and famed comedian, Kevin Nealon.

The evening could not have been as memorable without the fabulous entertainers, Rachael Crawford and the Downtown Noise, auctioneer Allen Schmidt, and emcee Barry Warner of 610 KILT AM in Houston, TX.  The event was an absolute success!  On behalf of the Campbell Family, we at the Pro Player Foundation, we would like to thank all those who came and supported the MS cause.  We look forward to seeing you next year!
